We Took A Cruise To Catalina Island

Published April 5, 2026

Description

We're on the Carnival Firenze and just docked here in Catalina Island. Hiked to the Wrigley Memorial, grabbed lunch downtown, and I can't believe I used to think this port was nothing to write home about.

Coming back 15 years later, a little older, a little wiser, this might be one of my favorites. It's such an easy port, you can walk pretty much everywhere, and there are so many things to do you'd have to visit the island 50 times before you could try everything. The only thing that could make it better would be an overnight stay. One can dream.

This is actually our last video from our very brief cruise on Carnival Firenze. Especially when it comes to the price, this ship really can't be beat. It's odd, it's quirky, the shows aren't anything that will blow your mind, but if your priorities are spending time with the friends or family you cruised with, great bars, great restaurants, and great ports, then this is a perfect option.

We weren't very big fans of the buffet or main dining, but we loved Bonsai Sushi and the 555 Steakhouse. We think we might like Bonsai even more than Izumi. The menu is really simple, but they get everything right because of it.

Our next cruise is in just one week! We're going back to the ship we first met on, Utopia of the Seas. Super pumped, we have lots of friends onboard and we're really looking forward to reminiscing a bit.
