Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas to Sail from MSC’s New Miami Terminal
MSC’s new Terminal AA in Miami - MSC
Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas will be embarking from an unexpected location this week — the new MSC Cruises Terminal AA at PortMiami — due to ongoing demolition and construction at the ship’s usual home terminal.
Temporary Move to MSC’s State-of-the-Art Terminal
Guests sailing on Freedom of the Seas’ October 27, 2025 departure have been notified of the change. The ship will use MSC’s Terminal AA, located on the eastern side of PortMiami, for embarkation and disembarkation.
In an email to booked guests, Royal Caribbean explained:
“Our usual terminal is currently undergoing renovations, and in the meantime, we’re excited to be using the brand-new Terminal AA, courtesy of our friends at MSC.”
While described as “renovations,” the line’s former Terminal G is actually being completely demolished to make way for a new facility.
Why the Change Was Needed
Royal Caribbean’s impressive Terminal A, known as “The Crown of Miami,” is unavailable for this sailing, as it will host the Oasis-class Wonder of the Seas on the same day.
To avoid confusion, guests have been urged to follow the blue “AA” signs upon entering the port, as the new terminal is located just past Royal Caribbean’s own Terminal A — though the two are not connected.
The cruise line also cautioned guests that Terminal AA’s design is similar to an airport concourse, so some walking is required. Parking at the adjacent garage opens at 11:00 a.m., and arriving early is not recommended due to limited availability until the previous cruise clears.
Busy Day at PortMiami
Embarkation day will be particularly active, with six cruise ships scheduled to depart:
- Freedom of the Seas
- Wonder of the Seas
- Norwegian Joy
- Norwegian Jewel
- Carnival Sunrise
- Carnival Conquest
Despite the logistical shuffle, Freedom of the Seas’ 5-night Western Caribbean itinerary remains unchanged. The voyage will include stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay and Cozumel, Mexico, before returning to Miami on November 1, 2025.
About MSC’s Terminal AA
MSC Cruises’ Terminal AA opened on April 5, 2025, as the world’s largest cruise terminal, covering an impressive 492,000 square feet. Built over three years, the modern facility can currently handle two ships at once, with expansion plans to accommodate three by 2029.
The terminal reflects MSC Group’s commitment to U.S. cruising and sustainability. It was constructed with energy-efficient systems, sustainable materials, and shore power connectivity for docked vessels.
“Our new cruise terminal is the most advanced in the world, designed to offer a seamless experience for our guests before and after their cruise,” said Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises. “This proud moment reflects our unwavering commitment to Miami and its vibrant community.”
The terminal also features a six-level parking garage for 2,400 vehicles, along with dedicated areas for ride-share pickups, taxis, and public transport, helping streamline passenger flow through the bustling port.
