A P&O Cruises passenger booked a Norwegian Fjords cruise aboard P&O Britannia, but says she was left disappointed when the ship didn't actually sail through the dramatic fjord scenery she expected.
The complaint, recently featured in The Times, raises a much bigger question: when P&O Cruises – or any cruise line – uses words such as “Norwegian Fjords” to sell a holiday, what should passengers reasonably expect to receive?
In this episode, we look at the P&O Cruises complaint, the response given to the passenger and why the wording used to market cruises matters.
We also reveal our own experience after booking what was specifically sold as the inaugural sailing of Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas. When an earlier sailing was subsequently added, we spent nearly FOUR MONTHS fighting to get our money back.
Where should the line be drawn between clever cruise marketing and a product that doesn't reasonably reflect what the customer thought they were buying?
Which begs the question, who is standing up for British cruise passengers when disputes like these happen?
ADDENDUM / EDITORIAL NOTE: This video contains commentary and opinion based on our interpretation of the passenger complaint published by The Times on 1 September 2026, alongside responses attributed to P&O Cruises within that article. Our discussion of Legend of the Seas and IGLU is based on our own booking experience, correspondence and communications with the companies concerned. Where we discuss what we believe passengers should reasonably expect, or whether a cruise description accurately reflects the experience being sold, these are our opinions. We have sought to distinguish clearly between reported facts, our personal experience and our editorial opinion. Nothing in this video is intended to allege deliberate wrongdoing or deception by P&O Cruises, IGLU, Royal Caribbean or any other company mentioned. Information was correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of publication. If any company featured wishes to provide clarification, correction or a response, Sail Away will consider it for inclusion in an update.
