Did Netflix's Cruise Documentary tell the real Costa Concordia story? As a former Merchant Navy deck officer, I review Netflix's Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea and explain what the documentary got right, what it got wrong, and the crucial maritime details it completely missed.

Fourteen years after the Costa Concordia disaster shocked the cruise industry, Netflix has released Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea, a documentary exploring one of the worst cruise ship disasters in modern history.

But did it tell the whole story?

Having trained and worked as a Merchant Navy deck officer, I watched this documentary from a very different perspective. While Netflix does an excellent job capturing the emotion, fear and human tragedy of the disaster, I believe it overlooks many of the technical, navigational and operational decisions that ultimately led to Costa Concordia sinking.

In this detailed review, I'll explain why the documentary left me frustrated, what the official accident investigation reveals, and why Captain Francesco Schettino's actions remain one of the most studied examples of poor seamanship in maritime history.
